Thales Manufacturing-biased Engineering Graduates have an opportunity to develop manufacturing engineering processes for some of the most exciting technology driven projects. As well as undertaking a challenging training programme that involves a mixture of courses and on the job training, you can expect to have a real job to do from Day 1, where you‘ll facilitate the transition from concept to product – developing manufacturing processes, innovating solutions and implementing ‘lean’ techniques.
In this role you are likely to be involved in any of the following areas and your application should indicate those in which you have some training/experience (through your degree or on the job).
Business - business models, structures, economics, starting a business, running a business, product life cycles, profit and loss.
Design - CAD, CAM, materials
Quality Techniques - Statistical process control, managing change, taguchi methodology, design of experiments, FMEA, Quality function deployment, TQM, Problem solving.
Lean - wastes, 5S, implementation, Total productive maintenance, Kaizen, Value stream mapping, JIT
Manufacturing - Design for Manufacture and assembly, Injection Moulding, Casting, Forging, manufacturing requirements, material behavior.
Simulation - operations layouts, resources
Basic engineering principles - vibration, spring/mass/damper systems, Oscillation, liquids and gases interactions, electro-mechanical systems, open and closed systems, linear and non linear systems etc.
Sustainability - energy consumption, energy use in manufacture, alternative energy/power, wind and solar power.
Additional information
A high achiever, you will be at 2.1 level or above in a relevant engineering degree. You will be flexible, creative, self-motivated and enthusiastic, with a ‘can do approach’. A team player with excellent communications skills, you will relish a challenge. Someone who enjoys solving problems, you will be prepared to challenge assumptions and deliver alternative approaches. You will also have a good general understanding of manufacturing and design engineering.
Our structured training programme will include internal and external training courses, culminating in a recognised professional engineering qualification.
Successful applicants will be required to be security cleared prior to appointment
Please note that GDP activities take place during the working week but may require the investment of some personal time for travel and follow up activities.
You will have the opportunity to travel to Thales and non Thales sites throughout the UK when participating in Graduate Development Programme activities |

Starting with 2002, we have delivered turnkey railway control and re-signalling systems for the largest train stations in Romania (Timisoara, Arad, Brasov, Bucharest). We are currently modernizing part of the Pan-European Transport Corridor IV (Bucharest-Constanta line, Fetesti-Constanta section) and 11 major railway stations spread throughout Romania, with state-of-the-art safety-critical systems, in close collaboration with Thales product centers in Germany, Austria and other countries.
Equally important, Thales Romania successfully plays the role of a Thales Software Development Center, undergoing a fast evolution towards a high productivity "expert powerhouse" unit able to attract and retain talent. Our Research & Development Department, that has committed itself to triple its size by 2010, is organized in teams working multi-site for various projects for customers in Romania, Germany, Portugal, Israel, Finland, Poland, Latvia, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Bulgaria, France etc, simulators used in projects all around Europe, development of automatic train control for the Paris Metro etc. We are already the largest development center for rail control safety critical applications in the country and planning to expand in other domains covered by the Thales Group.
Profiles required
We have been pro-active in making Thales brand visible and acknowledged throughout the Romanian labour market, reason for which we are continuously undertaking a Thales Employer Brand Campaign. We are constantly targeting to attract both specialists with proficient development, programming or rail signaling skills as well as fresh graduates of Automation and Computers, Electronic Engineering, Transportation, Cybernetics and Economic Informatics, Mathematics or equivalent.
To accelerate our development, we are typically integrating our teams with R&D Centers from other countries, including medium term assignments in Germany, Austria, France etc. We are also bringing managerial experience from other leading units of Thales for certain periods of time to ensure local talent development and coaching for the long term.
